Each of us received a traditional Balinese blessing in the circle which showed us gratitude for being here. While each individual received a blessing, together we chanted mantras celebrating mother earth, several goddesses, the space, the community and our divine selves. Each mantra had a unique rhythm created by the hang drum, ukulele, djembe, kalimba, and varied vocal ranges. One of the beginning chants we sang was Om Gaia Om. This mantra celebrates mother earth and Bali is one of the most incredible places I can think of to celebrate this! As a community we called on four goddesses: Shakti; creator of life, feminine energy and power, Durga; the invincible, Kali; goddess of empowerment and change, and Saraswati; goddess of knowledge, music and art. Looking at all the smiles and excellent posture around the room I could tell we were already receiving the divine energy from these goddesses for our week of hoop dance exploration.
To finish opening ceremony we passed around delicious birthday cake for Sacred Circularities 5th year anniversary! Happy Birthday Sacred Circularities! We celebrated by hooping out our gratitude in the beautiful Wantilan dance space.
